If there’s one designer whom celebs or brides can’t get enough of, it’s Sabyasachi.
Of recent, Sabyasachi has been giving all of us maharanis, summer wedding goals with his carefully curated Instagram reveals. If you’re not already on Instagram, it’s time to join his hundreds and thousands of loyal followers and celebrate all things florals, embroidery and embellishments.
What we love most about the celebrated couturier is his unbelievable ability to narrate a story through evocative imagery. For the well-traveled maharanis Sabya’s Spring/Summer collections are nothing short of impressive. He transports you to a world of maharanis, palaces, immaculate gardens, afternoon tea sessions and more. Targeted toward the destination wedding market, the exquisite designs are captured against the backdrop of popular wedding destination, Udaipur and the regional capital of Sicily, Palermo.
Whilst a few ensembles shadow some of the old-world charming aesthetics from previous Sabyasachi collections, there’s a subtle air of uniqueness and freshness about these Rajasthani inspired designs with loads of floral print patterns, intricate embellishments and embroidery. And of course, the jewellery by Kishandas Jewellery is absolutely to die for.
As the designer suggests, ‘The Udaipur Collection’ holds “the essence of empowered luxury.”
Whether the maharanis in their French chiffon with European flora and fauna print, the maharajas in their quiet arrogance, the exuberant interiors of their majestic palaces, their culture, traditions of clothing, their often eclectic tastes in luxury, all of those notions and insinuations come to life with my creative liberty in the Udaipur collection. While there is global exposure to these iconic people, they are also extremely insular and proud of who they are and where they come from. – Sabyasachi
We are loving the candy coloured pastel lehengas, suits, sarees and those daring, low-cut blouses. Though one wouldn’t expect a bride to sport this style on their wedding day, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for the bride/groom’s sister.
Featuring shimmery ornate embellishments, dusty floral patterns, daring prints and vintage hues, the ‘Palermo Afternoon’ collection is a treat for the eyes. Sabya blends his signature style with Italian panache!
An extension of the Spring, ‘Udaipur Collection,’ these ensembles (as the designer so eloquently states) have “the right mixture of culture and exoticism.” He goes on to say:
Italy being Italy serves as a perfect location of a little dream. There are different kinds of weddings and customers – those seeking opulence, to more organic in feel onto the pragmatic – our brand caters to all those moods.
Another thing we have to admire about Sabya is his crazy sense of colour co-oridinating. The colour play in this collection is incredibly beautiful. It takes a genius like him to come up with such daring combinations. Here we see teals, pinks, antique reds – multi-coloured lehenga skirts, bright sherwani suits and on the other end of the spectrum, subtle pastel floral sarees and plain suits.
Sheer, transparent outfits are a massive trend this season and it’s so refreshing to see how the designer has mixed it up with floral applique and intricate beadwork. Perfect for an English summer right?
The netted dupattas have also returned for Spring and Summer as have capes and tassels and how can we forget the elegant maharani necklines and attached dupattas. The hand embroidery is so exquisite. Simply divine!
Don’t blame us, but we are a also a little obsessed with the statement tropical prints too. The hand painted lehenga’s, blouses and silk sherwani suits are so dreamy, we can seriously picture any destination bride or groom in these outfits.
Sabyasachi’s collections have always pushed boundaries and perhaps that’s one of many reasons why he is so popular in the international bridal wear market. ‘Udaipur’ and ‘Palermo’ have something for every maharani this wedding season.
