A note from the founder…
Hi! I’m Poonam.
Here’s a little story of how I landed in the big fat world of weddings and events. It was not always about glam parties and events with me. In fact, the complete opposite!
After losing my mother to ovarian cancer in 2010, I realized how precious and short life really is. So, at the age of 30, I decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a scientist to follow my dreams.
The Maharani Diaries initially started off as a South Asian wedding blog, created to make the wedding industry more representative of the wider Australian society. Little did I know that just a few years later, I would have my design work published in local and international publications and appear on webinars discussing diversity and inclusion in the wedding industry and how to plan an Indian wedding.
It’s been a steep learning curve, but I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else! It’s an absolute honour and a privilege to work with brides and grooms to help translate their vision from the beginning to the end!
I have had the fortune of living and working in 3 different cities. Melbourne, Cork and now Sydney. Hence my love for travel and exploring the world with my amazing husband (thanks Anand)!
I currently live and work out of my apartment in the wonderful suburb of Marrickville in Sydney, Australia. Inner-westie for life!
My journey in this industry has been so rewarding. From blogging to volunteering, working in hospitality, and interning with wedding and event planners to now helping couples on their wedding planning journey, The Maharani Diaries is the culmination of everything I believe in.
I want to dedicate this journey to my late mother who was and always be an inspiration to me. Finally, I’m doing what I love Mum!
xo Poonam
