Pernia’s Pop Up Studio Opens in London’s Luxury Retail District
Indian bridal shopping in one of the world’s best retail destinations, London just got a whole lot more exciting maharanis, with the opening of Pernia’s Pop Up Studio!
Leading online multi-designer, Pernia’s Pop Up Shop, Indian fashion store recently opened their first international store on Grosvenor Street in London’s luxury retail district, Mayfair. Home to over 500 designers, including Tarun Tahiliani, Ridhi Mehra and Gaurav Gupta (to name a few), the Mayfair boutique now houses a curated collection of designer outfits for would be brides, grooms and fashion lovers.
The store opened amid much fanfare, with local British asian celebrities, influencers and bloggers all in attendance.
Attending the opening of Pernia’s Pop Up Studio made me feel like a child entering a chocolate shop. I was excited as well as curious to see how the collection would be curated and adapted for the London market, and I was not disappointed.
Pernia’s Pop Up Studio aims to be a one stop shop for all your Indian fashion needs, with a gorgeous collection of Indian bridal outfits, menswear, Indo-western collections, juttis, jewellery and plenty of accessories. I was left ogling at the creativity of some of the accessories and I took plenty of mental notes myself, on how I could best work and style some of these collections into my own wardrobe!
Or course, our much loved and revered designers were showcased at the store opening. From the eye-popping and quirky designs of Masaba to the bespoke and eclectic ensembles of Papa Don’t Preach and not forgetting the opulence of Tarun Tahiliani’s signature lehenga’s and gowns, there was something for every style and taste. Other notable mentions go to Anamika Khanna, whose latest cuts are absolutely stunning. The collection also includes a few pieces from Manish Arora.
It was great to see that they had accounted for the upcoming, Wintery months. I loved the woolen capes and jackets with gorgeous Kashmiri embroidery and embellishments. There was also quilted cotton which is naturally quite practical for the cool winds of London. Who said Indian fashion can’t be comfortable and ‘warming?’
Following the UK store launch, founder of Pernia’s Pop Up Shop, Mr Abhishek Agarwal of Purple Style Labs says that he plans to launch several stores around the world, including US, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Since acquiring Pernia’s Pop Up Shop in 2018, he has expanded to the offline retail sector, opening multiple stores across India.
Globally, Indian fashion is growing from strength to strength and so the timing is absolutely perfect. Mr Agarwal realized that a large percentage of online sales were in fact being driven by an international demographic, so expansion is key to this growth. Furthermore, the accessibility. One of the reasons for opening physical boutiques, is that “a lot of people feel more comfortable coming to a store, trying the products and then buying.” Everyone loves the old school charm of being able to touch and feel an outfit, let alone try it.
Having lived in Sydney the majority of my life, I am no stranger to the collection available on Pernia’s Pop Up Shop’s online store. Now in London, I love how now shoppers and brides to be can buy exclusive, direct runway to rack ensembles from emerging as well as established designers.
I would highly recommend visiting Pernia’s Pop Up Studio the next time you’re around London. It’s located just within a stone’s throw from Oxford Street.
