Vibrant and Modern Sikh Wedding Celebration in the heart of Melbourne: Simran + Anmol
A year ago, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the beautiful, Sikh wedding celebration of Melbourne sweethearts, Simran and Anmol.
Melbourne DJ and co-founder of Enigmatic Entertainment, Anmol and I connected over a cup of coffee in the northern suburbs (who knew our families were living in the same ‘hood by the way) early last year. Very soon after I found myself attending his “enigmatic” wedding bash in Melbourne and what an epic celebration it was!
Simran and Anmol’s vibrant and modern Sikh wedding celebration was truly a spectacular affair, which isn’t much of surprise actually. This couple had every detail planned to a tee, and that too with the assistance of some of the best creatives in the Melbourne wedding industry.
Honestly, I cannot wait to share their details with you. Big up to Anmol and Simmi for sharing the details and the fabulously talented, Bhargav Boppa Photography for capturing every memorable moment.
Jab We Met
You don’t have to do any guess work here. Simran and Anmol’s love story actually began from working in the wedding and events industry. With Anmol being a DJ and Simran and her family running a catering business, their meeting was bound to happen eventually.
Luck as may have it, they used to regularly bump into each other at various events in and around Melbourne.
“We had been family friends for around 10 years, and we always used to see each other at work.”
It so happens that Simran’s family even catered for Anmol’s brother’s wedding a few years back, but just like a classic Bollywood love story, Anmol never noticed her.
“My family was invited over to Simran’s house, along with the other families, and we felt a spark. Believe it or not, whilst playing beer pong! How romantic right?! We dated for quite some time and eventually we knew it was the real deal.” – Anmol
Fast forward to their proposal, where the two of them actually caught each other off guard! Anmol goes on to tell us,
“On our first date, I took Simran to a beautiful bridge that she has always wanted to visit, in Templestowe. Whenever she wanted to clear her mind, she would always ask me to meet her at the same bridge. I tried to surprise her, but I had no idea that Simran was secretly proposing too. She had been carrying the ring for a while, in case I was going to pop the question. Thankfully, she had no idea about the secret photographer. That was a complete surprise! As soon as we were 100 percent sure about getting married, we caught a secret flight to Canberra and got both of our best friend’s approval before going on ahead to tell our families.”
Since the bond between both families was already so strong, there were no such challenges.
Modern Sikh Wedding Celebration
Being perfectionists, this Melbourne couple knew exactly what they wanted.
They were switched on from the beginning. So, it wasn’t much of a challenge to bring their favourite wedding suppliers together, to help turn their wedding vision into a reality.
“We both knew what we wanted as we already work in the wedding industry. We had actually previously worked with all of our wedding suppliers in the past on other couples’ weddings. So yes, we were relatively organised, but of course Anmol, being the groom, was super chill as opposed to Simmi, the stress head.”
They both took complete control of each event, with the support of their parents of course.
“It is a lot of pressure, especially when you sometimes want to do things more modern, but your parents are not on the same page. It’s all about compromise and negotiation in the end. They just want to see us happy.”
As Simran and Anmol go on to state, each event had its own unique style.
“Working in the industry, we both felt a pressure to deliver a different wedding – something unique to display what we could accomplish.”
Their sangeet celebration had a gorgeous, contemporary feel about it, with pretty feminine hues. I was particularly blown away by the lighting and production and of course, their amazing DJ, who played everybody’s favourite Bollywood and Punjabi tunes all night long.
The stunning backdrop, styling and dancefloor on the night, were all courtesy of Kerr Events.
“The sangeet was like a fairytale theme – “prince meets princess” with beautiful pastel colours, flowers, a Mughal style backdrop with beautiful cherry blossom tree and a blank white canvas dancefloor with vibrant decals.”
For their wedding day, Simran and Anmol upheld tradition with a beautiful, traditional Sikh wedding at the gurdwara.
“Our wedding had more of a royal theme. We had a unique backdrop, something that no one in the gurdwara had ever seen before.”
Once again, their backdrop was custom designed by Kerr Events. Simran and Anmol had a beautiful royal Mughal chair to sit on with modern floor candelabra stands on each side.
Simran and Anmol’s vibrant Sikh wedding celebration in Melbourne came to a close with an opulent reception party held at Park Hyatt.
With Simran’s favourite colour being purple, the couple chose to infuse the colour into the entire reception theme. Bride, Simran had the biggest say when it came to narrow down the styling and décor. As for Anmol, he was completely in his element, with impressive LED screens, pyrotechnics plus more.
“I was completely in my element for the visuals and grand production. Everything was big and elaborate, from the LED screens, to the lighting, to having fireworks all around the dance floor, special effects, dry ice and of course our custom made entrance music mixed with matching visuals and a programmed light show. Everything had a “wow factor” at the reception party.
Being caterers, Simran and her family were particularly focused on the quality of the food and service.”
The couple were completely opposed of the idea of sitting on a stage at their reception party and instead opted for their own private “sweetheart” table.
“The last thing you want to do is be on stage! We just wanted to let loose and have fun.”
Mr & Mrs Enigmatic
This uber stylish, enigmatic couple were dressed to the nines for every single one of their events.
Funny story though, Anmol actually refused to travel to India with Simran for their outfit shopping!
“Anmol refused to go to India. I did all of my own shopping and had to pick up Anmol’s outfits with his family. There was no real inspiration though, I went shopping with an open mind. When you try something and like the way it looks on you, you definitely know it’s the one! The shopping experience was interesting though. I was super stressed that my outfits wouldn’t arrive in time! My reception outfit literally only arrived the week before the wedding and actually required further alterations. Otherwise, no other challenges. We kept it mostly traditional and ensured that there was no overlap with colours. Anmol and I aren’t fussed about trends.” – Simran
Simran had high praise for her incredibly talented hair and makeup artist, Haffsah of Lajeen Artistry.
“Haffsah took complete control with my hair and makeup. She is a genius and knows what she is doing.”
Simran and Anmol recount many memorable moments from their wedding, including snacking on McDonald’s after their photo shoot and Anmol running almost an hour late to the wedding.
Anmol was also quite emotional when Simran walked down the aisle. But perhaps, the most memorable moments came after they said “i-do.”
“Planning the wedding was stressful, especially when Anmol had so many overseas guests. The stress didn’t stop after planning the wedding. We had people cancel and change their RSVP’s during the wedding. When it’s finally over though, it’s like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders!”
Believe it or not, the couple wanted a simple and intimate Sikh wedding celebration, but must to their dismay, both sets of parents did not agree.
“We had to do it with a bang!”
The Fabulous Team
Call me biased, but there’s nothing quite like a team of wedding experts coming together to make a wedding celebration in Melbourne truly memorable. This was evidently the case for Simran and Anmol, who selected a fabulous team of dream wedding suppliers. Everything was seamless.
From Haffsah, Sean, Bhargav to Jeruisha and their wonderfully entertaining Canadian DJ, Double J, they were beyond thrilled with the outcome.
“Everyone involved killed it. The best thing is we all have a really good relationship. We are all good friends and the main thing is that we felt so comfortable. With regards to photography and video footage, we were actually quite nervous and felt a little awkward in front of the camera. However, Sean and Bhargav made us feel so relaxed, allowing them to capture beautiful, carefree and candid shots. They made us laugh by singing and pulling jokes. We didn’t feel tense at all. Shout out to The Maharani Diaries too! You’re the real MVP!”
This time last year, the couple were enjoying the warm surrounds of Maldives and Singapore.
“After an entire week of Indian festivities (literally our wedding went for 7 days), we just wanted to sit by the water, drink cocktails and chill out, where no one could disturb us. Maldives was the perfect dream destination. We also explored Singapore on our way home. With Simran being a foodie, she wanted to explore the culture and diverse food there.”
Final Words and Advice
Wedding planning comes with its perks alright and when you work in the industry, it all falls naturally into place. For Simran and Anmol, they had the exact same sentiments to share.
“Choose us as your wedding planners or have a terrible wedding! Above all, enjoy your wedding. Yes, it is stressful, but when it comes to the day or week, don’t stress. Be happy and live in the moment. Whatever will be, will be.”
Effortlessly combining a mix of eastern and western style aesthetics, Simran and Anmol’s Sikh wedding celebration in Melbourne is the perfect inspiration for couples who want the best of both worlds.
A very happy 1 year wedding anniversary to Simran and Anmol too. I had such a blast covering your big day(s)!
